Programs

Sanctuary partners with the Talbot Street Christian Reformed Church, located at 513 Talbot Street.  It is in the atrium of this newly renovated church building that the community meets for some of its programs, including:

Lunch Drop-in.  Mondays open 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, Lunch served noon-2pm.
We invite our friends into our space to share a meal, play cards, have a coffee, and get to know one another. We sense that the greatest need of all people is to be connected to others. Drop-in is a space for all people to connect, feel loved, and welcomed. We will not use the word “client” for the people who attend – we much prefer the word “friend.”

Lunch is served at noon!

Bible Study.  Currently on hold.
Join us as we dive into the scriptures a little deeper in a small group setting.  It’s a safe place to search for answers to some of life’s deepest and toughest questions.  While we try to follow a book of the Bible, no topics or issues are out of bounds!

Drop-in and Community Meal.  Wednesdays 1:00 – 8:45 pm.
“Family Style” dinner begins at 5:30

Visual Arts and Creative Writing.  Thursdays 12:30 – 3:00 pm @ 531 Talbot Street.
One of the greatest losses a person experiencing poverty feels is the loss of their voice and creativity. They feel like their voice does not matter, is not worth listening to, and should be silenced. We offer space and time (through guided teaching) to allow our friends to express themselves once again.

Worship Service.  Sundays @ 6pm, Doors open 5:00 – 8:00 pm.
We remain determined to centre our week on growing in understanding (including allowing questions) of God and the scriptures. And we sense that worship is the essence of any community. It is at the feet of Jesus’ cross that we can be real, feel broken, renewed, called, forgiven, and loved. We meet there weekly.

Generous Space. Every other Monday, 3-4pm @ 531 Talbot Street.
A bi-weekly Generous Space group at Sanctuary for the LGBTQ2SIA+ community and our allies. This is an opportunity to ask hard questions and explore what faith might look like for people who may not feel welcome in other contexts.

Gardening. Seasonally on Thursday evenings @ West Lions Park

Street Outreach Walks. As often as we are able!

Also, if you keep your eyes peeled, you may spot one of our staff, or one of the many other people from the Sanctuary community sitting in a local downtown coffee shop, or on the street corner, or even under a bridge, fellowshipping with people who, for whatever reason, are considered to be the “least among us” within our city.  We leave “our space” and enter the area where our friends feel most comfortable. We walk, meeting people on their own turf, greet people who are new to the city, and over time build up relationships of trust. Rarely do we hand out anything on these walks. We want to establish friendships based on mutuality – not provision of services.
